Changing Voter Information
A voter must update their voter registration if they change
their address or name. Voter registration information can be
updated in any of the four following ways:
- submit the mail-in
form. Use this form to: register for the first time; update
your address; or update your name.
- in person at the Rockford Board of Elections office,301 S. 6th
Street
- at any Secretary of State's office where driver's licenses or
state IDs are issued
- through an active deputy registrar affiliated with a local
organization, such as a political party, or other state-certified
body.
After the registration form is processed, a new voter card will
be mailed.
***VOTER REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE 27 DAYS BEFORE ANY ELECTION AND
RE-OPEN 2 DAYS AFTER ANY ELECTION***
GRACE PERIOD REGISTRATION AND VOTING
You may make a change of address, change of name or register as
a new voter in the office of the election authority from 26 days
through 7 days prior to an election, however, if you wish to vote
in the upcoming election you must vote the day you
register.
Qualifications for registration are:
- you must be a resident of your precinct for 30 days by the date
of the election,
- you must be 18 years of age or older the day you register
during grace period registration, and
- you must be a citizen of the United States.
Grace period registrants may not vote at the
polls, even if they decided not to vote the day in which they made
a change of address, change of name or registered as a new voter
during grace period.
